Eneco UK helps food and drink manufacturer meet green targets

Eneco UK has just completed the deployment of a cost-saving green energy solution that will help a Yorkshire-based soft drinks manufacturing plant meet its group-wide sustainability goals. The 4.7 MW rooftop solar installation consists of more than 11.000 solar panels on an area roughly equivalent to 112 tennis courts.

Eneco UK is part of the international energy company Eneco founded in the Netherlands in 1995. The UK arm has a proven history in renewable energy dating back to 2008 and has helped some of the largest corporations in the UK to lower their carbon footprint.

For this project, Eneco worked with energy procurement construction experts Iqony SENS and project managers Syzygy to deliver a photovoltaic (PV) solution on the rooftops of a 40-acre production site. This installation can generate 4,000 MWh of electrical energy per year, enough energy to boil 40 million kettles. The Bradford rooftop solar installation was the second PV solution delivered to this multi-site business by Eneco.

Around 90 per cent of this energy will be used to power the plant itself with the rest exported to Northern Power Grid.

Erwin Leeuwis, Eneco’s Director of Solar said ” We have taken a great step here in the execution of our One Planet Plan, by helping businesses decarbonize their energy supply with solar power generated on their own roof. We look forward to working together with many other customers to do more of the same!”

“This PV installation did not involve any capital outlay for our client and their monthly power costs will be reduced too through our power purchase agreement with them. It is a win-win scenario in terms of the environment and cost saving for our client.”

In terms of environmental benefits, it is estimated more than 900 tonnes of CO₂ will be saved in the first year of using PV generated energy, equivalent to planting 47,250 trees.

Alongside PV projects, Eneco also owns its own wind and solar farms across the UK to provide reliable clean and renewable energy to British businesses. Eneco is aiming to be climate neutral by 2035 by mitigating the emission of all greenhouse gases, not just carbon.

Eneco’s flexible power purchase agreements (PPAs) for ‘behind the meter’ solar assets give clients the benefit of long-term power price certainty without the need for capital expenditure or investment, while offering immediate savings. In the UK Eneco also offers PPAs to generators of renewable power and it supplies 100% renewable power to business customers from dedicated renewable assets.
